Ok...so now before all of you type that address into your browser and go check out what I have been doing...WAIT! There's nothing there yet! But I wanted to make a mental not physical note of all of the amazing things that are going on with this new business venture I am on!

So here it goes! Here's the story about how this all came to be.

The idea of mass producing my invention came about a week before Thanksgiving. It wasn't that I hadn't flippantly said in my head, "I bet you could sell this." But it had never occurred to me to actually do it until then. I stepped straight off the treadmill and walked into the laundry room where my husband was ironing (in his towel!!!) and pitched the idea! He was completely on board. Immediately we began to pray about this venture.

Shortly thereafter I began my research. I googled everything under the sun! Tips and tricks, ideas, graphic design ideas, web design, and a whole host of other things. I even went as far as to search endlessly through the patent offices records! But now what? I had no idea how to begin or where to go and what to ask!

Then it occurred to me that I had a possible connection (which really means that I know someone who is related by marriage to someone who may have some information for me due to her experience). I decided to make a call. That turned out to be a major jumping off point for me. This connection gave me amazing information...much of it unsolicited, and gave me ooodles of advice that is literally priceless.

The next day I googled some more and made an appointment with a patent attorney. I also researched some contracted sewing companies. I made appointments, made phone calls, emailed, and prayed very hard during this time. Then I made a leap of faith and registered for a trade show in Las Vegas in September. But it wasn't until I met with the patent Attorney that I really had enough information to move forward.

When the patent attorney gave us the go ahead my dreams began to soar. The possibilities are endless. But...my budget is not. Oh yes, that's right. All of these soaring dreams are costing money. Where, you might ask, is it coming from? That's not totally "firmed" up yet. We have spent a pretty penny already. But we are confident that our investment is not in vain.

Our next step? Well...the website (which as I said is nothing right now) is in progress. The logo is in progress. I am in talks with the sewing contractor and hope to have some "samples" from them in 30 days or less. I am working on fabric sourcing (but am struggling...so anyone who can help...PLEASE!). Our business is being Incorporated as we speak. Our patent process has begun. I have made our deposit for the trade show and am now seeking out "trade show booth design", which is another area that I have no idea what I am doing (so again, any hints!!!).

Well this isn't it...but it's a start! The things that fly through my head on a moment-by-moment basis are many...ok by the millions! But..this is the idea anyhow...and I can't wait to show you the actual product. Stay tuned!

infant support pillow

Written by Alicia Overby - Founder & President of Baby Elephant Ears

Alicia is wife, mother, and creator of Baby Elephant Ears. Baby Elephant Ears was created out of parental concern, not financial desire. In 2005, when their second child was an infant, he cried all the time and just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

After seeking advice and suggestion from the medical community and alternative medicine, they eventually ended up in the chiropractors office where their baby was successfully treated for a subluxation, discomfort most likely the result of the strain during labor, which was now being exacerbated by the normal lack of infant neck strength. Only proper neck, head, and back alignment would offer him relief. When they couldn't find a product to give their baby the necessary support, Alicia took matters into her own hands and crafted her own infant support pillow. The first Baby Elephant Ears was born!
