How to Give Back During the HolidaysAs the holidays approach, it’s important that we all keep in mind the good things we have in our lives and find ways to give back to others. “Giving back” can mean a lot of different things. You may want to show your appreciation to your spouse and kids, or maybe your local school or church. It might mean doing that favor you keep putting off or just vowing to be more polite.

Small acts of kindness go a long way. Here are some ways you can give back during the holidays.

1. Collect cans of food and donate them to a food back. Most people are happy to donate a can of something they have in their cupboard.

2. Donate old clothes to a shelter. Everyone has a box or bag somewhere in the attic they don’t need anymore.

3. Run an errand for someone. It can be as simple as stopping at the store for your friend.

4. Pay it forward. This is a growing trend of people paying for the food or drinks of the person who shows up after them. It’s a fun way to make strangers feel appreciated.

5. Call an old friend just to catch up. This makes someone feel valued, like you were thinking of them.

6. Tip well. Everyone has gifts to buy this time of year. Make your server/driver/bartender’s day.

7. Send a holiday letter. Family and friends love receiving these, because they catch them up on news about your family.

8. Leave a pleasant note. Compliment your coworkers or neighbors with a simple, but meaningful note. Say something like, “Thanks for always responding to my emails so quickly” or “Your lawn is always perfect.”

9. Sign up for a 5k race. There are lots of these hosted this time of year and the money always goes to a good cause.

10. Donate blood. Every drop helps save lives.

11. Bring old toys to a children’s hospital. They always need good toys to cheer up the kids.

12. Actively compliment people. Work hard to compliment the people in your life every day, even it’s as simple as “I love your smile” or “You’re so thoughtful.”

13. Give out homemade food. People love food! You make someone’s day easier with a simple homemade gift. They’re inexpensive, too.

14. Give out $5 gift cards. Five bucks isn’t much, but it’s not enough to get a couple coffees (or one really nice one)

15. Host a party! It doesn’t have to be complex or elaborate, just have people over for coffee and cake.

16. Buy lunch for holiday workers, like police officers, firefighters and hospital staff. A simple pizza or sub could really make their holiday.

Alicia is wife, mother, and creator of Baby Elephant Ears. Baby Elephant Ears was created out of parental concern, not financial desire. In 2005, when their second child was an infant, he cried all the time and just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

After seeking advice and suggestion from the medical community and alternative medicine, they eventually ended up in the chiropractors office where their baby was successfully treated for asubluxation, discomfort most likely the result of the strain during labor, which was now being exacerbated by the normal lack of infant neck strength. Only proper neck, head, and back alignment would offer him relief. When they couldn't find a product to give their baby the necessary support, Alicia took matters into her own hands and crafted her own infant support pillow. The first Baby Elephant Ears was born!
