5 Timeless Ways to Celebrate Spring with Family

22nd Mar 2016

what to do in spring with familyStaring at the screens of our iPhones, computers and TV all winter long eventually becomes exhausting for everyone. These redundant activities distance us in just as many ways as they bring us together. As the weather warms up, you and your children want nothing more than to step out and enjoy the fresh air together. Here are few ways you and the kids can spend some quality time together outdoors this spring.

1. Go Camping

If you’re family is living in the inner city, a camping trip can be a total culture shock! Left without ipads to lean on and no vending machines to buy from, a camping trip allows for a real family adventure to unfold. Pack up your favorite foods and get ready to sing your favorite camp fire songs. These are spring memories you don’t want to miss out on creating.

2. Picnic

If the bugs and dirt associated with a traditional camping trip sound like a bit too much for even you, keep it simple and hit up your local park. All you need is a few snacks and blanket to make it a good time. Being in an outdoorsy environment and relaxing with the people you love creates an atmosphere for a staycation you’ll never want to end.

3. Kayaking

In many places, spring is still a little too cold to hit the beach in a bikini but it’s not too cold for kayaking and similar boating activities. Many public parks, lakes and beaches have activities like these the moment spring starts. Don’t miss out. Search your local park listing to see if there are any free water excursions available near you. When you get tired of paddling, let your children join in. It’s a win-win for everyone.

4. Kite Flying

Those windy spring days are perfect for the joy of kite flying. If you didn’t have chance to experience this classic activity as a kid, now is a great time to learn the skill with your own child. You can compete to see who can fly their kite the highest. This is an incredible bonding experience that you can use to celebrate spring together.

5. Bike Riding

Some things never get old, and bike riding is one of them! Make it a competition racing around the block or around the park or keep it cool and just explore your city. The best part is that you get a workout with your entire family.

Written by Alicia Overby - Founder & President of Baby Elephant Ears

Alicia is wife, mother, and creator of Baby Elephant Ears. Baby Elephant Ears was created out of parental concern, not financial desire. In 2005, when their second child was an infant, he cried all the time and just couldn't seem to get comfortable.

After seeking advice and suggestion from the medical community and alternative medicine, they eventually ended up in the chiropractors office where their baby was successfully treated for asubluxation, discomfort most likely the result of the strain during labor, which was now being exacerbated by the normal lack of infant neck strength. Only proper neck, head, and back alignment would offer him relief. When they couldn't find a product to give their baby the necessary support, Alicia took matters into her own hands and crafted her own infant support pillow. The first Baby Elephant Ears was born!
